A much-noticed meeting: Greta Thunberg and Malala Yousafzai join forces ????
The Swedish climate activist and the Pakistani children’s rights activist and Nobel Prize winner have met at Oxford University to discuss their activism and speak to students.
The two garnered lots of attention online after they shared photos of their get-together on social media, each praising the work of the other. “So… today I met my role model. What else can I say,” Greta wrote on Instagram, while Malala tweeted: “She’s the only friend I’d skip school for.” Both of the young women shot to worldwide fame after standing up for major global issues: climate change and women’s education.
22-year-old Malala Yousafzai is currently studying philosophy, politics and economics at Oxford. In 2014, Malala, who was shot in the head by the Taliban in Pakistan, became the youngest-ever recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize at 17 for her advocacy for the right to education for all children.
Greta Thunberg, now 17-years-old, visited Oxford on the way to the city of Bristol where she is set to join a school strike climate protest on Friday. She’s been nominated for the prestigious Nobel Prize for the second year in a row. Swedish parliamentary officials nominated her for leading the Fridays for Future climate protest movement.
