Can we use mud to understand climate change?



Professor David Thornalley from University College London, in the UK, has been using data from ocean floor mud to understand how the Atlantic Ocean has changed over thousands of years into the past and how it may change in the future due to climate change. His data show that the ocean’s circulation has been weakening, probably as a result of human-caused warming.

This animation is a free education resource aimed at inspiring the next generation of STEM (science, technology, engineering and maths) and SHAPE (social sciences, humanities and the arts for people and the economy) experts. It can be used at home or in the classroom alongside a downloadable script, article and activity sheet, all of which are freely available here:
