Mike is a former coal miner living in coal country, West Virginia. He’s experienced the downside of America’s reliance on coal – his father died of black lung disease. He’s also seeing the changes from climate change in coal country. He believes that clean energy will not only help stop global warming, but also bring more jobs to coal country.
Mike volunteers with Citizens’ Climate Lobby, which has helped him move from being discouraged by the future to being encouraged to make positive change happen. With CCL, Mike works to build support with his members of Congress for a climate solution called the Energy Innovation Act that will also help low and middle income Americans.
Mike is restoring an old car with a new electric engine, eventually be used by his 12 year old granddaughter. He loves being in nature – that’s why he built his home in West Virginia. ‘I wanted to be closer to the earth.’
