Continuation of civilisation in our hands David Attenborough tells world leaders

David Attenborough said “Climate change the greatest threat facing humanity for 1000s of years. Process that could lead to the collapse of civilisations and the extinction of much of the natural world is on the horizon. Continuation of civilisation in our hands David Attenborough tells world leaders. This is a Man-made disaster of global scale. Take that in for a minute. Watch the video.
Ignore him at your peril for Continuation of civilisation. There’s no-one who has seen more of the world for as long has he has. What a speech! What a legend! – “Leaders of the world, you must lead!”
World leaders hold great power over how quickly we can shift systems to clean tech, share resources, create climate action policy etc. But to these wise words of Attenborough, I would also add that citizens have immense power to foster big changes through collective action, grassroots movements. How citizens choose who to support with their purchases, LOWER overall consumption, and demanding politicians prioritize climate change in all aspects of municipal, provincial, state, and federal levels of policy and action. Citizens have a lot of power to influence how the next 20 years play out. Let’s head towards rapid, smart, inclusive, just climate action globally! Further, and critically the industries causing the most harm need to be identified, targeted, and shifted toward sustainable practices pronto. The era of insatiable greed needs to end, its time for justice through better systems and practices.
Think of it this way. If he’s wrong, and we follow his advice and the advice of all the scientists around the world that corroborate the theory we don’t lose anything.  If he and his pals are correct and we do nothing, we lose everything. Mankind’s “Greed” and “Ignorance” are two factors that eventually lead us to disaster and/or extinction. Lets change this! We cannot leave Continuation of civilisation to someone else.
We need to talk about our diet affects all this. Fossil Fuels. Single Use Plastics. Deforestation. So many issues.
“Livestock and their byproducts account for at least 32,000 million tons of carbon dioxide (CO2) per year, or 51% of all worldwide greenhouse gas emissions. Livestock is responsible for 65% of all human-related emissions of nitrous oxide – a greenhouse gas with 296 times the global warming potential of carbon dioxide, and which stays in the atmosphere for 150 years.” Animal Agriculture is the leading cause of climate change. Be the change.
We need to deal with people who respond like this “So livestock leave a bigger carbon footprint than all travel, energy consumption etc. Do me a favour. Probably some big oil or aviation company funding them studies” . Do me favour and open your eyes!
Preservation of the ecosystem and control over climate change cannot be achieved in a world where most countries’ economies are capitalist, relying on ever increasing consumption, implying we must buy more and more and increase populations. If we don’t act soon one day someone will say this “”once, there was a species called humans”.
David Attenborough was not alone, I think Stephen Hawkins also thought climate change was of more concern than an nuclear exchange. However, the audience obviously didn’t agree by the applause which was lukewarm at best. Clearly they have more important things to think about!
A truly great and inspirational human being who will aid our cause Continuation of civilisation – if we were all more like him then climate change would not be happening in the first place. But it is and if we fail to act now then fittingly nature will react by ensuring we can no longer survive on this wonderful planet. A truly global issue requiring global cooperation and action – human history and selfishness is not on our side but for the sake of future generations I hope we see sense and harness our extraordinary intellectual abilities to solve this problem. One world one people – last chance.
We won’t be able to rely on our leaders. Many of them like Trump are either not convinced or don’t think the crisis is that bad. Only we the people can change this. Change our habits. Change our consumption. Use less. Recycle. Re-Use. Buy less.
Educate our children. They will have to fight even harder than us if we continue on this trajectory. Make schools teach children at an early age how important it is to protect our world. Encourage them to get involved in projects and participate in interacting with scientists, farmers, fishermen, manufacturers etc on how to make our planet recover from Global Warming, plastic pollution, cleaner air, etc. Young children are conduits for embracing ideas which gives them ‘food for thought.
We are looking to politicians for answers. But in reality WE have the answers and WE can make the change. Until consumers stop consuming fossil fuels, palm oil etc there is no incentive with the big corporations to change. They follow the money but WE have the money. Use yours wisely.

Little steps make a difference if millions are making those same little steps to support Continuation of civilisation.

Look to your communities, be the change, offer alternatives, educate others. Don’t leave it to politicians, we’ve tried that, it doesn’t work.

Educate your children they’ll pressure you to make the right decisions when it’s “easier” to chose the convenient option.

It’s Christmas time so use this opportunity and instead of buying plastic rubbish buy renewable items. Buy local and buy what’s made locally. Support small business that DO care about what you think and what the community around them needs.

Be the change don’t wait for someone else to do it for you… More articles on the impact of climate change.
