A child growing up today faces an unprecedented threat to their health and livelihood. Our 2019 Lancet Countdown on health and climate change highlighted how the climate emergency is impacting on the health of children right now. Our recent Series on the Double Burden of Malnutrition explored the co-existence of under and over nutrition, and the challenging implications for children in low- and middle- income countries. The continued commercial exploitation of children and young people to consume unhealthy food, along with exposure to alcohol and tobacco products, damages health and wellbeing around the world. Migration, increasing conflicts, and political moves away from social safety nets and poverty reduction compound these threats.
