The Earth Warrior Carbon Calculator is a zero waste 101 tool that helps address climate change and guides people toward the UN Sustainable Development Goals.

Here are some facts about the planet we call home with tips on how you help combat climate change and make a difference in the world.

Fact: The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) released its Fifth Assessment on climate change in 2014, with the conclusion, “climate change is real and human activities are the main cause.” – United Nations: Climate Change

Solution: There are small everyday choices you can make that can help you reduce your carbon footprint and you can track your results on the Resilience Birthright: Earth Warrior Carbon Calculator.

Fact: 1. The Amazon was set on fire in 2019 for farming and cattle grazing. – theatlantic.com
2. The Amazon controls 20% of the planet’s climate and oxygen.- By Jessie Yeung and Abel Alvarado, CNN

Solution: Just by choosing to eat vegetarian or vegan one month out of the year, one day of the week, or one meal a day can make a huge difference over time. You don’t have to be a vegetarian or a vegan to help reduce the impacts the meat market has on the planet.

Fact: 1. The US consumes a majority of the world’s natural resources. – University of Michigan
2. The US throws away a majority of the world’s waste. – The Guardian
3. The US is the second-largest emissions emitter in the world. – Priceonomics

Solution: You can make a difference every day by practicing the 6 R’s whenever you can: Refuse, Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, Repair, and (Rot) Compost.

• Refuse items you do not need, Reduce overconsumption
• Reuse as much as you can and avoid single-use disposable items
• Recycle whenever you can

Solution: You can help heal our oceans by picking up litter and refusing single-use plastic items, such as utensils and straws, for example.

Fact: If the US reused (instead of consumed) 500 million straws a day, that would be 509 carbon metric tons avoided, which is equivalent to 500 cars removed off the road a day and 182,500 cars removed over a year. -Resilience Birthright Earth Warrior Carbon Calculator
