Zoë Jones from @xrebellionuk will be joining our Founder Francesca Trotman in this week’s Thursday Night Live Q&A Sessions, talking about the climate emergency, environmental activism and being a rebel. Zoë has been an active member of Extinction Rebellion (XR) since November 2018. Her first speech was at a climate rally in her hometown of Shrewsbury, and she hasn’t stopped speaking out for climate justice since.

After being arrested in parliament square in April 2019, she helped to secure the declaration of a climate emergency in Shrewsbury, one of hundreds of local councils in the UK to do so. She has continued to organise her community since her move to Bristol, appearing on national and international news platforms as a spokesperson for XR.

Zoë worked on the media team for the XR Summer Uprising in June 2019. In October 2019, Zoe pleaded ‘guilty’ to obstructing the highway in court following her arrest in April. Afterwards she spoke to thousands of rebels outside the department of justice, calling on legal professionals to protect young people from the criminal negligence of the UK government on the climate and ecological emergency.

Through her work in international development, Zoë realised that just focusing on one issue was not enough. She hopes through her activism to show that the climate affects everyone and everything that we love, and we can only save our world if we work together to change the destructive system we live in.
