The Future of Environment Policy with Luke Pollard MP & Jo Blackman

Held on Monday May 18th, the Young Fabians Environment Network held a discussion with Luke Pollard MP and Jo Blackman on the climate emergency, the future of environmental and DEFRA policies, and the ramifications of COVID on global efforts towards sustainability.

Luke Pollard, MP for Plymouth Sutton and Devonport, and Shadow Secretary of State for Environment, Food & Rural Affairs.
One of the first MP’s to declare a climate emergency, signatory of Strengthen The Ban (hunting), and an island of red in an otherwise blue South West.

Jo Blackman: Labour Councillor (Redbridge) and Head of Forests Policy and Advocacy at international NGO Global Witness. Previous Head of International Liaison for Labour.

Global Witness, founded in 1995 when they cut off funding to the genocidal Khmer regime, is a tenacious organisation challenging corruption, e.g. illegal logging in Papua New Guinea, exposing it (see the Publish What You Pay (PWYP) campaign, helping bring trillions of dollars-worth of oil, gas and mineral deals into the open), and holding organisations accountable-eg Shell; facing one of the largest corporate bribery trials in history due to their work.
