The U.N. secretary-general warned Tuesday that global warming could force a mass exodus “on a biblical scale.” “The danger is especially acute for nearly 900 million people who live in coastal zones at low elevations — that’s one out of ten people on Earth,” Antonio Guterres told the U.N. Security Council.

New Zealand’s Climate Change minister, James Shaw, denounced the lack of global action on climate change Tuesday as Cyclone Gabrielle wreaked havoc across his nation. “I don’t think I’ve ever felt as sad or as angry about the lost decades that we spent bickering and arguing about whether climate change was real or not,” Shaw said in parliament.

The almond trees in Spain are blooming a month earlier than usual due to a change in the climate. Spain is the world’s second biggest exporter of almonds, so a bad harvest can have massive economic implications. The early appearance of the flowers is out of sync with pollinators, especially bees, experts say.
