The world has been working on reducing greenhouse emissions for thirty years, and making tangible progress. Yet, temperatures are approaching the Paris Agreement’s more ambitious goal of limiting warming to 1.5C. It has thus become necessary to explore governance of additional approaches to reduce risks beyond what emissions cuts alone can achieve: accelerated adaptation, removing carbon dioxide from the atmosphere, and possibly cooling the planet by reflecting incoming sunlight. The Climate Overshoot Commission—hosted by the Paris Peace Forum—is an independent group of eminent global leaders who will recommend a comprehensive strategy to reduce risks should global warming goals be exceeded. In this 45 minute panel, Commissioners, including the co-chair, will describe its work plan and offer their individual views on governing these additional approaches.
