Cultural burn being conducted in spring of 2019 on Shackan band lands facilitated by the First Nations’ Emergency Services Society’s Fuel Management Department and Shackan Indian Band members with assistance from the BC Wildfire Service.
The Indigenous cultural burning storytelling and practices video project is a companion initiative to the Revitalizing Traditional Burning: Integrating Indigenous cultural values into wildfire management and climate change adaptation planning project. Our planning project combined Indigenous cultural values, and traditional burning knowledge, with modern wildfire science, for the purpose of developing wildfire management strategies, that enhance First Nations cultural values
