Can we address climate change, described as humanity’s biggest challenge? Erik Solheim, former UN Undersecretary General and chief of UN Environment, says yes. In the past, nations achieved miracles like stopping acid rain and fixing the hole in the ozone layer. There’s also the China development story. From a life expectancy of about 30 years in 1949, when the People’s Republic of China was founded, to 78 today, soon to pass 80. There are also success stories in pollution control and biodiversity protection. All this is good not for the Chinese economy alone but also for the entire planet. Solheim tells “The Hub with Wang Guan” that our achievements can be limitless if China and the U.S. work together. And his prescription for that is that China should put the brakes on anti-American sentiments while the U.S. should stop its China-bashing.
