Climate Cocktail Club | Climate Cast #1 | What does the Covid-19 crisis mean for climate change?

In response to the ongoing lockdown and in an effort to continue the conversation about the climate crisis, we’ve taken Climate Cocktail Club online. Here’s the first in a new series of CCC Climate Casts.

We heard from leading experts about how the Covid-19 crisis might effect ongoing efforts to tackle climate change and what lessons we might learn…

• Elizabeth Sawin, co-director of US-based NGO Climate Interactive, who has written about how “the public is coming to understand that if you wait until you see the impact, it is too late to stop it”.

• Kingsmill Bond, energy strategist at UK-based NGO Carbon Tracker, who has been looking at what the recent oil price changes mean for the fossil fuel industry and whether “the virus will bring forward peak demand for fossil fuels”.

• Finally, after some Q&A with Clubbers, we wrapped up with a contribution from JC Coccoli, an American comedian, writer and producer who, after driving across the US in an electric car for Amazon Prime docu-series, The New American Road Trip, spoke at the UN about the experience and how comedy and culture can influence policy.
