The European Union has declared a “climate emergency” in a symbolic vote that voices the need to take action against global warming at an upcoming climate summit.
After a debate this week, the EU legislature voted on Thursday in favor of the declaration with 429 lawmakers for and 225 against.
The European Parliament’s environment committee chairman Pascal Canfin said it’s not about politics but a matter of common responsibility.
The UN climate summit will be held in Spain from December 2nd to the 13th.
