If we’re not willing to be uncomfortable, comfort will be the death of us.
Nobody WANTS to pick up someone else’s rubbish. So what is the difference between the people who do anyway and those who choose not to?
The vision of a cleaner world, of communities coming together to create respected spaces, of a connectedness with nature, knowing that which harms our environment also inherently harms us as interconnected life, of consistent peace and nonviolence towards our home and all who live here. If we’re not able to uphold our values and take strides towards a future we want to see then what are we advocating for? How can we expect to see a clean world if we’re not willing to help clean it? Working with blame and ridding ourselves of responsibility won’t help our collective vision crystallise. Shifting and dispersing responsibility for our joint home only serves to, at best, delay progress and, at worst, sabotage our chances of seeing that world at all.
Don’t cut off your nose to spite your face. Pick up the rubbish.
