This is first meeting the public have been able to speak at since lockdown began. Dez Dell and 9 others spoke and there is so much less pressure than speaking in front of everyone in the Council Chambers. Everyone should give it a go!
Dez spoke on the need to delay the sending of the Site Specific Plan 2 (SSP2) – part of the overarching Local Plan for North Northamptonshire, which will have far-reaching effects on Kettering for decades to come.
The Climate and CV19 emergencies are not mentioned in the plan (as it was written before these events) so he stated that it should be deferred to be re-adapted to the reality of now.
The SSP2 also ‘safeguards’ the Weekley Hall Wood development area as ’employment allocation’, which will make it harder to Save Weekley Hall Wood.
Unfortunately, the plan was voted through unanimously by the Planning Committee, however, the fact that so many members of the public spoke up in favour of action on the Climate Emergency will not have gone unnoticed. We will have the chance to feedback on the SSP2 at the Examination in Public stage once it comes back from the Secretary of State.
