PM Trudeau on wage subsidy extension, April unemployment numbers – May 8, 2020



Prime Minister Justin Trudeau provides an update from outside his home in Ottawa on the federal government’s response to the ongoing COVID-19 (coronavirus disease) pandemic, including the extension of the Canada Emergency Wage Subsidy beyond the month of June. The extension comes as unemployment figures for the month of April show a jobless rate of thirteen per cent. The prime minister also announces the formation of the Industry Strategy Council, which will advise the government on the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on various sectors of business.
