STORYLINE:
The leaders of California, California, Oregon, Washington state and British Columbia on Thursday signed a new agreement to work together to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
California Gov. Gavin Newsom, Oregon Gov. Kate Brown, Washington Gov. Jay Inslee and British Columbia Premier John Horgan signed the Pacific Coast Collaborative Statement of Cooperation at the Presidio Tunnel Tops park in San Francisco.
The agreement, an update of a 2016 climate partnership, will promote collaboration on moving toward a low-carbon economy with investments in electrical vehicle charging stations, renewable energy and other infrastructure.
At the signing ceremony, the four leaders talked about how climate change has led to catastrophic wildfires, poor air quality and droughts in their regions.
They said moving toward a clean energy future won’t just help the environment, but lead to stronger economies.
