“You are Wrong about Climate Change” – Jordan Peterson

Jordan Peterson recently met with John Anderson, the former Australian Deputy Prime Minister, and had discussions over various political issues. During their chat Peterson criticized the politicians who don’t rule by principle.

He claimed that such politicians degenerate into short-term opinion poll manipulation, giving people what they hypothetically want in the short term despite the difficulty of determining what people actually want. People don’t know what they really want. And using opinion polls won’t get them very close because they aren’t given any options or the options are not spelled out clearly. According to him, people may want a variety of contradictory things at once, so questioning them indiscriminately about their current desires in a very focused way won’t reveal their true desires. That is a very challenging, demanding, and profound thing.

What Dr. Peterson and the former PM are trying to imply here that asking people for short term choices and leading on their opinion is not the right kind of governance because that’s just manipulation. The leaders are ultimately working for their own short term motives.

Right through all, the tendency in policy terms has been to produce results that discriminate against younger people.

Mr. Peterson clarifies that findings from climate change policy proposals have a history of being biassed against younger people. They find it more difficult as a result to increase their real earnings and climb the asset ladder. How much do you believe that is being pushed, explicitly and knowingly, by something resembling an antigrowth ethos? The majority of radical voices on the climate change front assume that future generations in the west and most definitely those in the developing world cannot hope to achieve anything even close to the current older population’s standard of living and that they must get used to having lesser lives.

Actually, it’s part of the strategy. Therefore, it appears to be a feature rather than a fault that young people are being priced out of the home market and face a more uncertain economic future. Because if you hold a genuinely Malthusian perspective, you will undoubtedly believe that humanity will continue to grow until there are too many of us, at which time there will be a catastrophe. This is quite simplistic biological modelling, and it will lead you to believe that everything must be done to impose the most stringent growth limitations possible.

The poorest people in the least developed regions will suffer the most if energy is limited and food is more unaffordable and this has already begun. Therefore, it is a really strange thing to behold, especially given the absence of any supporting data. The extensive evidence analysis conducted by individuals like Bjorn Lomberg revealed that the enormous sum of money already invested was useless. The hypothetical improvement in the environment has not only had little discernible impact on climate change, if any, but has also made energy significantly more expensive.

Europeans have been criticized for being colonial but can there be anything more colonial than this? The living standards in the west have been almost entirely driven by fossil fuel reliance and it has been pretty good. It’s like forcing the backward savages and the developing nations to stop pursuing growth because they have already exhausted enough fossil resources. This is anything but moral. Indeed, its appalling and murderous.
