Agroecology: A Viable Solution to Climate change

The 1950s saw a rise in technological advancement in agriculture which was termed the Green Revolution. It came with high prospect for plant yield and prosperity but not without a high ecological cost.

Industrial agriculture employs a massive use of inorganic fertilizers and pesticides with homogenization of crops and big fossil fuel dependent machines and processes. Further impacts include the erosion of indigenous farming practices, the marginalization of smallholder farmers, degradation of soils and loss of biodiversity.

Industrial agriculture significantly contributes to climate change which is a big threat to food security and food sovereignty.

Agroecology as a science, a practice and movement provides solution for the resilience of ecosystems and of farmers to the impact of climate change. It cools the planet while ensuring stable and optimum food productivity.

Watch how Agroecology is a viable solution to the climate and food crises.
