Feeding the 5,000: Emergency Response Webinar

On Friday, 4/17/2020 NC Interfaith Power & Light- NCIPL hosted a Feeding the 5,000: Emergency Response Webinar along with our partners: Rural Advancement Foundation International- RAFI, Carolina Farm Stewardship Association- CFSA, and our sister program – NC Council of Churches Partners in Health & Wholeness- PHW.

We all know there is nothing more basic to life than food. We literally are what we eat. The story of our food, how it is grown, by whom, where, under what circumstances, how it travels from farm to fork, and the transformations it undergoes has profound implications for our health, our spirits and our environment.

Now, more than ever we are seeing the already critical hunger issues in North Carolina dramatically increase due to the societal impacts of COVID-19.

We know that people of faith are called to feed the hungry, and we’re so grateful to be working with so many partners to create a world where all are fed and fed well.

Our Feeding the 5,000 webinar featured Carolina Farm Stewardship’s pilot project to help connect farmers with restaurant employees out of work as a result of the COVID-19 crisis. This pilot project will not only help feed our neighbors and friends during this time, but it will also provide the groundwork for larger projects–projects that will bolster community resilience in the midst of the kinds of crises we see as a result of national disasters and climate change.

In the comments section below we will drop the Facebook Live recording and the webinar link posted on YouTube so you can share it with your community to learn how to help support this work.

And please contact us to receive information about NCIPL’s Sacred Foodscapes initiative, where we make the Food-Faith-Climate Connection and highlight the ways congregations can minimize their carbon foodprints, support just, local and sustainable agriculture, and improve food security all as part of answering the mandate to care for creation and the least among us.
